Renown photographer Terry Allen made his name in music, landscape, and sporting photography. His work ranges from still lifes to portraits for recognized artists and musicians such as Andy Warhol, The B-52s, REM, Indigo Girls, and Widespread Panic. We're thrilled to exclusively represent Terry's impressive body of work in our art collection.
Terry Allen’s love for music began at age 7, inspired by the Beatles, Hank Williams, and Buddy Holly. Although musically talented, he struggled with instruments and instead picked up a camera. His passion for photography was sparked in 1974 when he borrowed a Nikon and shot a George Harrison concert. Soon after, the discovery of Linda McCartney’s book, Linda’s Pictures, solidified his desire to make photography his life. That year, he photographed a Paul McCartney concert, and in 1976, while in London, he met Paul and Linda at Abbey Road.
He began shooting publicity photos for his friends’ local bands, including the B-52s, R.E.M., Pylon, and Widespread Panic. Later, he managed the Athens band Dreams So Real who signed to a record deal in New York City, opening the doors to the music industry.
In 1995, photography lead him to the outdoors, where his childhood interests in Davy Crockett and Boy Scouts merged with the world of wing-shooting, capturing the fine shotguns, clothing, whiskey, and cigars. From there, he began traveling extensively, capturing the breathtaking beauty of the world through many adventures in the passenger’s seat.
Terry never formally studied photography—he majored in accounting—but his lifelong passion for capturing moments has only grown. Today, he's more in love with photography than ever, continuing to embrace the unexpected journeys it brings.
